It nods to the iconic Aperol spritz found in cafes and bars all across Italy, but the IPA lends a little heft as well as a mildly bitter bite. It also comes with its own snack. Fantastico! Cheers to the Volpi IPA Spritz.

The Volpi Jabberwocky https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/the-volpi-jabberwocky/ Thu, 19 Sep 2019 22:15:18 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=11564 A little cocktail history lesson. Back in the 1920s in London’s very fancy Savoy Hotel, a British-born and American-trained bartender was shaking up the cocktail scene. Harry Craddock became famous for his potations, and they landed in an incredibly cool Art Deco book, The Savoy Cocktail Book. The cocktail is named after the Lewis Carroll poem from Through the Looking Glass – a delightful representation of literary nonsense. We don’t think it’s nonsense at all. We think it’s quite sensible to shake one of these up right now. The salami garnish, well, now that might seem like nonsense, but wait ’til you try it. You might chortle in joy as you sip your Volpi Jabberwocky.

The Volpi Dirty Martini https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/the-volpi-dirty-martini/ Fri, 09 Aug 2019 14:07:53 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=11538 We’re not looking to pick a fight amongst martini aficionados. The tried and true deserves every bit of worship. Yet sometimes ‒ perhaps when you feel a little rambunctious, or even a little rebellious ‒ only a briny, steel-cold dirty martini will do. We use giardiniera, the ubiquitous Italian pickled vegetable condiment, to add a touch of heat along with the acid. It’s our dirty little secret, or should we say the Volpi dirty martini.

The Volpi French 75 https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/volpi-french-75/ Wed, 26 Dec 2018 17:49:16 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=10931 The Volpi French 75, named after a 75-millimeter gun used by the French in World War I, this is no cocktail to mess with. It will hurt you. Just kidding, it will make you feel really good. Especially when you take a sip from a glass rimmed with ground coppa sugar. Yeah, we did that. Just for you. Santé.

Spiced Rum Punch https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/spiced-rum-punch/ Mon, 19 Nov 2018 14:01:28 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=10727 Day-drinking diaries. The Colonial Americans wrote the book on it, though it’s not as fun as it sounds. They turned to alcohol because it was safer to drink than the water. And gussying up what was probably some harsh hooch with sugar and spice was the obvious way to make it all go down. Pay tribute to the Pilgrims by kicking your plain apple cider up a notch with this spiced rum punch recipe.

Fire-Roasted Bloody Mary with Chorizo-Scallop Garnish https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/fire-roasted-bloody-mary-with-chorizo-scallop-garnish/ Mon, 31 Oct 2016 09:00:26 +0000 http://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1633 Party Hard – You earned it, now deal with it. It’s great to be able to predict your hangover and make the morning go just a smidge easier by whipping up the Bloody Mary mix a day ahead. Not only will you just need to add vodka and some ice, but the flavors of the mix will intensify overnight and really give you an eye-opening hit of umami, spice and heat. And if you space it (or party too hard unexpectedly) it’s totally fine to drink it the day you make it. Just stir the drink a little longer with the ice to get it good and cold. And if that hangover is just too intense to make this fantastic meal of a garnish, stab a cube of Chorizo together with some kind of pickley thing on a skewer and surrender to your elixir. This fire-roasted bloody mary with a chorizo-scallop garnish is sure to wake you up and kick that pesky hangover to the curb.

Sour Grapes Shrub Cocktail https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/sour-grapes-shrub-cocktail/ Wed, 26 Oct 2016 09:00:47 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=3501 Preservation nation. Steeping fruit, especially fruit that’s on its way out, with vinegar and sugar isn’t just about thrift. The result is a slightly fizzy, incredibly refreshing elixir that gained popularity during Colonial American times as a way to cool off workers in the field, though people had been sipping sweetened vinegar in hot climates for centuries before that. We like the unique flavor it lends to cocktails, savory and sweet at the same time. We chose to use grapes for our sour grapes shrub cocktail, but you can try it with any fruit in season to create your own array of funk.

Cantaloupe Agua Fresca https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/cantaloupe-agua-fresca/ Mon, 22 Aug 2016 13:06:47 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=3377 Beat the heat. Agua fresca or “Fresh water” fruit drinks are an everyday accompaniment to meals in Mexico. Using local fruits of the season, they make a refreshing sipper to wash away the dry, dusty days. Our cantaloupe agua fresca is a little more elaborate — sweetened with an infused simple syrup and topped off with seltzer and a fresh garnish. We like to be fancy. Sometimes.

This drink pairs well with some fresh Prosciutto.

Berry Smoothie https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/berry-smoothie/ Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:24:11 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=2981 The next time you go hard, reward yourself with this creamy, restorative treat. It’s loaded with nutrients, antioxidants, and a sweetness that tastes more like something for cheat day than core day. It’s actually good for you and you can dial things up or down for flavor and nutrition. If you want less concentrated sugar, use fewer dates or substitute ripe banana. If you’re looking for more minerals, add spinach or baby kale (as long as you don’t mind it turning from purple to brown). Almonds are powerhouses, and the sprouted version has even more nutritional value because it’s easier for the body to absorb. The chia seeds will thicken as this sits, so drink it quickly or grab a spoon and call it pudding.

And by the way, the leftovers (if you have any) are ridiculously good when stirred into oatmeal or yogurt.

Kombucha – The Art Of Fermenting Tea https://www.volpifoods.com/recipes/kombucha-art-fermenting-tea/ Fri, 13 May 2016 15:40:42 +0000 https://www.volpifoods.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=2721 Kombucha is a sweet, fermented tea. It’s one of those healthy live foods that make you sure you’re doing the right thing with every sip. It’s light, refreshing, and better for you than soda (though it does contain sugar, caffeine, and a small amount of alcohol).

If you haven’t tried it yet, buy a bottle and see if you like its bright not-too-sweetness. If the answer is yes, you may soon find yourself spending more than you’d like on fancy bottles of “booch.” When that happens, take the next step and brew your own. It’s easier than you think.

Start with the basics until you get the hang of it. We’ll show you how to put your own spin on it later.

Note: Pregnant or nursing mothers and people with compromised immune systems may want to check with their doctors before drinking live cultures.

See Cook’s Note on learning more about the art of fermenting tea.
